Questions about the counselling process
How do I choose a counsellor?
You can search for a counsellor on the British Association for Counselling
& Psychotherapy (BACP) web site www.bacp.co.uk . It is important you choose someone you feel comfortable with so
I suggest you see 2 - 3 counsellors before making a decision.
Do you offer
an introductory session?
I offer
an initial 30 minute free face to face consultation, which can help you decide if my services are right for you, helps you
to decide what type of therapy you would like, and also provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have.
Will what I say be confidential?
Counselling is confidential, however there are a couple of exceptions to this. I am in regular supervision
and talk with my supervisor about my work and case laod. You would not be identified during this process. Secondly, if
I had concerns you were going to harm yourself or someone else. The issue of confidentiality will be discussed in more detail
during an initial appointments and you will be given a written contract detailing the limits to confidentiality.
How much does it cost?
Counselling
& psychotherapy sessions usually last for one hour, and cost £40. If you cancel a session with less than 48 hours
notice then you will need to pay the full rate.
Are you qualified?
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and adhere to their Code of Ethics. My
qualifications are listed on the qualifications page.. I initially trained as a Person Centred Counsellor gaining a Diploma
in Counselling and later an MA in Counselling Studies with Distinction. I then specialised in working with people who have
experienced childhood trauma. More recently I have retrained as a Transactional Analyst. I have regular supervision
of my work.
How accessible is your home for people with disabilities?
My counselling room and toilet are on the ground floor.
